Our laziest day so far. Went into town to have a mooch around the market where Wend bought a sarong/sheet/tablecloth thingy adorned with bright orange hibiscus blooms. A snip at five quid - which is more than can be said for the dodgy chicken stew we paid twice that for.
Said our final goodbyes to Daniel and Katrin who were off to finish their holiday with 3 weeks in NZ. Lucky sods, wish we could do something like that.
Spent the afternoon on the beach then Wend cooked some kind of Dolmio based pasta concoction for dinner. Dolmio seems to be big over here, and given the proliferation of fabulous locally grown produce, that's just weird.

Dave & Wendy, I'm soooooo jelous... all that sun when there is nothing but rain here! E
Mid-table Mediocrity
First quiz last night with a badly depleted team, we were down to the bare bones - just Mintowt & Lewis sat at the bar against a full strength NWRA and Cobbler's Octopus. Rounds one and two saw us safely mid-table, though we might have made the intertoto spot in the second - of course, we may have made the champions league with you two in attendance - I'm sure you know which London building was rebuilt by Nash in 184? and who's only oratorio was Jesus on the mount of Olives (?). Jan did redeem himself by being the only one in the pub (except me) to know the capital of Bermuda. I was also particularly proud when I scored by knowing what an Isohel was. Needless to say, the first round came down to a tie-break between NWRA & Cobbler's (BOO!) - which NWRA won, and then they lost the second on another tie-break to Das Badger.
Up For The Cup
We had consoled ourselves with the knowledge that a good cup run in the jackpot round would make us feel better and when Cal announced it was on music we were quietly confident (as in, Jan was quietly confident I'd know at least some of the answers). The first tough one was Who co-wrote the Liverpool Oratorio with Paul McCartney - which we sailed through before stumbling on who sang the theme tune to Tomorrow Never Dies and schoolboy error on my part meant we missed out on who's albums were Watermark & Shepherd Moons. Still, I think we made it to the quarter-finals before bowing out. Can't remember who actually won, but it wasn't either of the usual suspects, so, a victory of sorts.
In a vain attempt to corrupt the official, Jan has taken the bribery of Callum to the next level and invited him to the Arsenal match and a day on the lash. I don't think he'll allow it to sway his professionalism though - he wouldn't even interrupt his reading of the answers for a free tequila shot last night.
So, that was the quiz - in other news - Jan has still failed to stock the beer fridge - a few more cans of kroney and it'll be empty - can you have a word?
We also had the first Golden Lion night without you two. Matty Broon & I hosted, Keith, Alan, Gary & Masami showed up but it was somewhat subdued despite our narrow victory over the Turks.
So, that's it. Come back soon, I don't get invited out anymore - actually that's not true, I have had some invites but mysteriously missed out on others (they all know who they are). See, it's all falling apart without you.
Right, that's your lot.

p.s. the answers were Buckingham Palace, Beethoven, Hamilton, areas of equal sunshine, Carl Davies, Sheryl Crowe & Enya.
